Liberty Park New York City

Organically shaped benches made of white concrete define the look of Liberty Park in New York

DUCON was used as white architectural concrete in the new Liberty Park on the World Trade Center site. Since DUCON was the only technology capable of withstanding the extraordinary combination of seismic and impact forces, the contract was awarded to Germany, where the majority of the manufacturing also took place.

Freely formed 3D bench elements with a component thickness of only 60 mm (2.4 in) are arranged to form massive planters. The elements are designed as cantilevered structures and anchored only at their base. This construction method was chosen to reduce weight and prevent overloading the ceiling of the parking garage below.

In addition, wall panels up to 4.60 m (15 ft) high with a thickness of 30 mm (1.2 in), complete with copings, were installed. They adorn the entrances to the park.

Liberty Park was designed by AECOM’s Landscape and Urban Design Studio in New York. The park covers a total area of 4,000 m2 (43,000 ft2) and can accommodate up to 750 visitors. Its opening in June 2016 attracted worldwide attention.
