Filigree roof panels

The outstanding performance of DUCON provides the perfect basis for manufacturing large-format and filigree roof panels. Elements measuring up to 12.50 x 3.00 m (40 x 10 ft) can be manufactured, delivered, and installed in one piece—with component thicknesses of just 6 to 10 cm (2.5 to 4 in). This advantage has already been exploited on several occasions, for example in two projects in Kaiserslautern and Bad Griesbach.

Kaiserpfalz Kaiserslautern

As part of the urban redevelopment of Kaiserslautern city center, a large-format DUCON roof panel was installed in 2011 to cover the historic exit from the underground passages of the Imperial Palace. With a component thickness of only 80 mm (3 in), this reduced the weight and also minimized the installation effort, as the entire roof, measuring almost 34 m² (370 ft²), was manufactured as a single element. Thanks to the high density of the DUCON mortar, no additional sealing was required. The rainwater drainage system was integrated into the component during manufacture and overflow protection was ensured by means of a surrounding upstand.

Private residence in Bad Griesbach

A canopy structure made of DUCON white concrete stands in Bad Griesbach. The approximately 32 m² (340 ft²) slab hangs as a filigree roof over a dining and lounge area. The visual highlight is a circular recess with recessed lighting, which creates a pleasant atmosphere both during the day and at night. At the same time, however, this geometric feature also posed the greatest challenge of the project, as it significantly reduced the cross-section at a highly stressed area. Thanks to the high load-bearing capacity, the geometry was quickly optimized and the project was brought to execution.
