White concrete curtain wall façade for the Hotel am Stuttgarter Tor in Reutlingen

A slimline DUCON façade made of white concrete was used for the new RiKu Group hotel in Reutlingen. Thanks to the high load-bearing capacity of DUCON, at least half of the required panel thickness and therefore a large proportion of the dead weight of the façade construction could be saved compared to a classic reinforced concrete design. Thanks to the large panel formats of up to 21 m2 per element with a component thickness of just 55-80 mm, the installation effort was also kept to a minimum.

In addition to the usual loads for façades, such as dead weight and wind, the project had to take into account that Reutlingen is located in earthquake zone 3 according to the national annex of Eurocode 8 (highest seismic load to be applied in Germany). Therefore, additional anchoring had to be installed to withstand the high horizontal loads. The anchoring of all fastening components could be carried out without any problems in the thin components. Specially manufactured flat steel anchors were concreted into the parts for this purpose.

After the installation of the DUCON elements was completed at the end of 2021, the three-star+ hotel opened in the summer of the following year. Since then, it has been offering accommodation for guests in 140 rooms in the immediate vicinity of the train station and city.

Project data:

  • Execution period: 2021 (Completion of overall measure 2022)
  • Curtain wall façade panels with a component thickness of 55-80 mm (2-3 in)
  • 243 elements with a total area of approx. 2,000 m2 (21,500 ft2)
