DUCON Security
Bullet resistance

Outstanding protection against gunfire and flying debris

The close-meshed, spatial micro-reinforcement of DUCON technology enables high resistance to bullet fire. With a component thickness of only 10 cm, it already meets the high resistance class PM9 (FB7). In addition, the building material guarantees protection against multi-hit fire, i.e., multiple hits within a small area of the protective plate. This results in only local damage to the front, while the back of the DUCON elements remains completely intact.

The following resistance classes according to VPAM PM 2007 are achieved:

  • PM9/FB7 at t = 8-10 cm (Hartkerngeschosse, auch Wolframkarbid)
  • PM13 at t = 10-15 cm (12,7 x 108 mm API)
  • PM14 at t = 15-20 cm (14,5 x 114 mm API)

In addition to protection against projectiles, DUCON also provides protection against debris caused by explosions, for example (see also Explosion protection). Such fragments also fly through the air at high speed like small projectiles and pose a danger to people and buildings in the vicinity. To protect against such debris, DUCON can either be installed as a protective element in front of the area to be protected or, alternatively, as a “safety net” directly on the side of the component facing away from the load from which the debris is expected to originate. Tests have shown that debris protection layers made of DUCON concrete with a component thickness of 1.5 cm or more can absorb the local failure of reinforced concrete components.
